In botany, the term chimera refers to a plant whose cells are a mixture of more than one genetic makeup. Chimerism occurs under several circumstances, including those wherein grafting, hybridization, or forced mutation induce chimeric qualities. They may also arise spontaneously due to cellular mutation as the plant grows new tissue.
Inconsequential, sure, but I think it was miraculous. I was totally floored when I found this pear included in my grocery haul a while back; I’ve seen many variegated plants, but never a fruit quite like this.
Good reminder to recognize the glory in all things, no matter how minute. And of course, what’s meant for you will always be yours—what isn’t never was.
